Dr. Joe Essid directed the University of Richmond’s Writing Center from 1991 to 2025, when he retired from full-time teaching.
This blog began as part of the university’s first-year writing program, Eng. 103, then began to feature stories about the Writing Center and its consultants, as well as a “Word of the Week” feature read by many faculty and staff–and even some students! A few readers have contributed guest posts. Joe added a “Metaphor of the Month” feature and continues to post about words and metaphors almost weekly.
Joe also continues to write about language, technology, and the pedagogy of writing.
