Montgomery Meigs: An Unsung Civil War Hero

Oops!  We had to remove the hero profile you’re looking for because it will soon appear in our new book Heroic Leadership: An Influence Taxonomy of 100 Exceptional Individuals, to be published by Routledge in 2013.

Our contract at Routledge required us to remove many of our profiles on our blog at this time.  But we do have other hero profiles and information about heroes on the menu bar located on the right side of this page.  Check it out!

In the mean time, please accept our apologies.  Here is more information about our new book.

  1. I think this is the perfect example of an unsung hero. His actions had an affect on so many people. Even if his name is not as well remembered as some, he is certainly a hero. His actions had a lasting impact and changed the course of history.

  2. it is a shame that more isnt taught about Meigs. his role during the war was obviously crucial, and it could be very beneficial to study his economic practices during the war. while it is usually the generals leading the charge that get military glory, there are always men behind the scenes who make the battles possible who unsung.

  3. I’ve served as an infantryman in the Army and later a Supply Officer in the Navy. It can’t be overstated, the importance of keeping the fighting man/woman concentrating on fighting above all else is essential. The difficulty in doing so in modern times is hard enough, I can only imagine the genius of Meigs to accomplish the work he and his men did.
