Map #2

This is a map of money spent on public transportation by county across the country, excluding Hawaii and Alaska. I thought it made sense to see a larger amount of money spent on public transportation around larger cities in the northeast and west coast.

Hi Matthew,
1. The title and north arrow are missing from this map, but i realize that these websites aren’t the most cartographically-conscious and the maps can’t be altered. This is one of the main drawbacks of maps made with these three sites.
2. This is a good extent because it shows all of the contiguous U.S. and shows the surrounding countries in a very muted color so the U.S. states pop out.
3. County was a good unit to use because anything smaller would clutter the map and state is too large a unit to depict differences near cities.
4. 2015 data makes sense because it is the most recent time period available.
5. 5 classes works for this map, however it is very difficult to read the amounts in each class.
6. The blue color range works for this map, but a green color scheme might work better to represent money.
7. No labels on this map which again, is most likely a result of the website used to create this map.
8. It seems like larger amounts of money spent on transportation are aggregated near cities and areas with higher population.
9. Overall a very cool map that could be represented better if the website allowed the author more cartographic ability.
