WK2 at Tuckernuck

I had a great second week at Tuckernuck. I was so busy and contributed a lot. I worked with the buying my first week and this week I have been with merchandising. I worked one-on-one with the head of merchandising, Jeanne Shewmaker all week. She walked me through what to keep in mind when merchandising such as COG, stock, newness, popularity of item, the costumer, aesthetics, etc. After walking me through all of that and teaching me the software Jeanne put meĀ  in charge of merchandising the new collections that Tuckernuck was putting out. As she reminded me this was a very important job because how a collection is merchandised can either make or break the success of the collection (no pressure there). I quickly got the hang of merchandising the products and before I sent the collections to the publishing team to publish and deploy Jeanne would look over my work and make suggestions if she had any. The merchandising of collections has to be constantly checked and updated because if one product sells out it is removed from the website and then all of the remaining products have to be re-merchandised to account for the products that sold out. One of the collections I merchandised went out over the weekend and during the Monday agenda and review meeting I will get to see exactly how much money the collection made so I will be able to see if I was successful or not in merchandising successfully.

Another part of Jeanne’s job is over seeing and directing photoshoots for collections and campaigns. This week the shoots summer product, vibrant summer, the June 10, and romance in the summer. I got to help style and pick of the photos that ultimately will be used.

I really enjoyed working with Jeanne. She not only took the time to really teach me and helped me improve. She also felt confident in my ability and let me work on my own, which I really value her trusting me with the responsibility. I look forward to taking on more responsibility in the future and continuing to learn and contribute as much as I can.

I attached part of one of the collections (the full collection is MUCH larger and therefore I did not think it was worth adding the entire collection) I merchandised this past week. It may not seem like a hard job, but as I learned it is actually a lot more work than one would think and I have a new found appreciation for merchandising and all the work that goes into it.

  • Sounds like you’re in the thick of it already, which is great. I would never presume that this was easy and as you said, it is a bit of pressure for your second week on site. Thanks for including the example – it’s a helpful visual. I’m excited to hear how successful you were. Also glad to hear that Jeanne has provided you the latitude to work independently and then get constructive feedback; that’s great.
