Personal Contributions at Sail Caribbean
In my time spent at Sail Caribbean this summer, I have witnessed my personal contributions many times. As a provisions manager, I am responsible for menu planning, food provisioning, supplies provisioning, accommodation of all food allergies or dietary needs, and management of food stock aboard all five boats in the fleet. Over the past two and a half months and many different programs, I have provisioned for hundreds of people while utilizing great planning and organizational skills. During each program, I can see the outcome of my work when all of our boats are stocked with the food, supplies, and tools they need to have fun, be safe, and be healthy while on the boats. Over the past weeks, the most notable events where I have been able to see my contributions are cookouts that we have three times each program. During these events we barbecue with all of our students as a welcome dinner, a celebration in the middle of the program, and a farewell dinner at the end of their time with us. These events are crucial in creating a comfortable and warm environment between our staff and students from day one and set the tone for the rest of the program. If these events were not provisioned for carefully or properly, the students would be unhappy and discontented. Simply put, food makes people happy and seeing people well-fed and with the right supplies they need has been great recognition of my contributions to Sail Caribbean this summer.
