Week 5 – Team Building
This week in the office was slightly slow in terms of work. Our big RFP response was finally finished so it was a week to sort of catch up on long-term work. Due to this, I continued to work on my long-term Lucas Systems Overview document for the company. In addition, I also was able to solve the software testing problem from last week. Every faulty item that was sent to me was tested and sent off to the US office to get repaired. In addition, I was able to help our customer by sending him loaner headsets in the meantime as their items were getting fixed. This ended with our company and most importantly, our customer being very happy. I felt proud that I was able to step up and take responsibility for this issue and in the end get it sorted out. I know the company, as well as the customer, really appreciated my work and me stepping up as an intern.
Along with work this week, we had a team building activity outside of the office. Since England was in the quarter-final our office decided to all meet up to watch the game. I really loved how enthusiastic our office was to coordinate this plan as it showed that we weren’t not just working partners, but also friends outside of the office. While watching the game our team was relaxed, fun, and friendly. Nothing in the atmosphere felt forced or awkward. I know a lot of companies try to do these team building situations and many times it feels awkward or uncomfortable, this was definitely not the case with us our group. It really showed just how special this team is and how close we all are. I am so glad that I have bonded as much as I have with my coworkers here. It has given me such a great experience and I look forward to spending more time with my team in the weeks to come.
Well it sounds as though you were able to really tie things up nicely for the client who had the faulty equipment; that’s wonderful. From what you shared last week, not sure your US counterparts would have managed it as well. As for the team building, it seems as though your colleagues are comfortable acting formally and informally with one another, which is great. Seems this was more of a social event versus an activity outside of the office (community service, ropes course, etc.) that required you to work together. But this kind of bonding likely enhances trust among your colleagues.
