What I love about Spanish Working Culture
This internship has been my favorite job, aside from being being a ref for UR’s IM program. And the reason I love it is because the people who work in the non profit world here are the most understanding people I have ever worked for (again, aside from my boss at UR, Shelby). I’m not going to lie, I was worried that my internship would keep me from enjoying the city, but my boss actually encourages me to. She understands that the world cup is a big deal to many people, and that this weekend especially was important for many spanards. In fact, everyone I work with has been a wonderful leader in one way or another, which reminds me of what I learned about in Dr. Goethals course: how everyone in your life can be a leader – friends, family, coworkers, even strangers. And It really is up to you, as the individual to pick and choose which leadership traits you want to embody and then embody them without fear of judgment so that “goodness” can be observed and repeated.
I learned a lot about the messy mix between football (soccer) – nationalism – etc…I am hoping to write my thesis on this topic and am excited to work with Dr. Hidalgo and the rest of Jepson for the next year in completing this project.
A bit of a late post. It is 5pm Monday evening…. won’t happen again Dean Sodurlund 🙂
Sounds like a really engaging environment in which you work and I’m glad that your supervisor is supportive of having the full experience of the city and all it has to offer. This does not, however, really qualify as a ‘theory in action’ reflection. You do reference your LDST 300 class here, but there is not much else to the reflection. You need to provide concrete examples of actions/behaviors you observe/experience that illustrate elements of the concepts/theories that you discuss. For instance, if you are going to talk about someone being a transformational leader, then make sure to provide examples of things that they do that embody/illustrate the four transformational factors (idealized influence, inspirational motivation, individual consideration, and intellectual stimulation).
