A Great Learning Experience
During my time at Cavi so far, I feel that I have learned a tremendous amount and really developed my consulting skills. This week exemplifies two instances in which my skills were put to the test. The first example was during my first official call as a team leader. I recently took on a leading position on the team working with our new client. We have had one “kick-off” call to introduce everyone working on the project from Cavi, as well as the executive team from the client. This week, I initiated a call with the client and a few other Cavi team members to review the project description, goals, objectives, measurements of success, and overall expectations and process of execution. I led the entire call and was able to manage the meeting very well. I went through the document that I created with the other team members working on this project. We talked through everything that we analyzed and presented as our expectations for the scope of the project. I facilitated a discussion so that throughout the presentation, the client had the ability to comment on our thoughts and input any ideas that they have for the direction of the project and what they would like to see. The conversation was balanced and very productive, and I am excited to work more with this client.
On a more personal side, this week was also the book launch party for Sam’s newly published book. At the launch party, I had an incredible opportunity to network with a variety of Sam’s connections and extended network. I spoke with many of the attendees and learned about their variety of careers. It was very informative and I was able to make some lasting connections who I will be able to keep in touch with and learn from. I feel like I have grown a lot while working at Cavi and I am excited to continue taking what I have learned, both from the work and the company employees, to expand my network and grow my career.
Wow! It sounds like you played a really significant role this week designing and managing the call with the client and your team. I hope that you received some positive feedback (and any constructive feedback that would be useful) from your colleagues?! I’m not exactly sure how this is a ‘problem-solving/improving leadership’ entry…but it clearly demonstrates that you were able to construct a thoughtful, meaningful, practical way to approach and run the call. Excellent news that you also made great connections at the book launch; networking is the key!
