Promotion within Loop
Two weeks ago, I hit the criteria of becoming a team leader. However, because I did not talk to the manager about my will and eager to become one, I did not get promoted. Since I did not hit the criteria in the following weeks one of which is 10 sales per week, I missed the opportunity and have been working as an intern. The reason that I did not talk to him was I felt disqualified and not confident enough in myself to become a team leader. I felt that I was not good at making sales which is the main focus of the business. From what has happened, I learnt that leadership is not only about qualification and a position, but also about seizing opportunities when they come and acting as a leader whenever.
Speaking of promotion, it is a hundred percent promotion within the company. Behavioral theories of leadership support the system. It is a system that believes everyone is able to become a leader as long as he or she puts in the effort needed with great student mentality, work ethic, and attitude. Age, gender, personality, and English fluency do not matter. Even it is someone who is now 40 years old and who still needs a translator while running a workshop, no one can deny the fact that he is a successful leader with his own office in Miami and is inspiring more people to be better. I could still remember his passion and positivity when he visited our office. What is empathized at Loop is that focusing on actions and everyone has the potential to run his or her own business and be a leader.
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t express your interest in becoming a team leader; I’m equally sorry to hear that despite reaching the criteria to become a leader, no one spoke to you about the opportunity. Good that you’ve realized that you need to represent yourself, make certain that your interests and accomplishments are recognized. As for this being a ‘theory in action’ reflection, to talk about behavioral theories is quite broad; there are many theories that fall under this umbrella. You would be better suited to identify a particular theory (not a broad category) and provide concrete examples of behavior/actions that illustrate the theory. The more specificity you include in these reflections, the better equipped you’ll be to complete the academic assignments in the fall semester.
