I don’t know if it’s quite accurate to characterize Terry Fox as a modern Pheidippides. Pheidippides ran to announce a victory that had already been won; Terry Fox ran to inspire victory against an enemy that has killed throughout Human history, and continues to kill today. One day, when that enemy is defeated, Terry Fox will be remembered as one of the soldiers who won the war.
And, in the future, those who strive against all odds to help others will be known as “a modern-day Terry Fox.” 8)
