This map is great! It’s informative but not overcrowded and is very personalized. Your symbology is clear and I like the use of various media as well as the different zoom levels on the main map and the small map on the top. As far as visual hierarchy everything looks great! I would suggest, however maybe adding a little bit of color to the map so that the relevant areas are more emphasized as the map is all the same color. All in all, this is great!

I like the use of StoryMaps.js. A couple of additions I would think about….

– It seems a little flat to me. I would try to add some variations of color. Whether that is on the background of your text slides or a different basemap.
– I would add a little more context to the first slide. This is where you really want to draw your audience in and get their attention.
-The videos do a great job of telling the story, but add a boiled down version in the text for people who just want to read and move on.
-I know you are limited on your styling of this, but a think a little more color and context would help a lot.

Very lovely – just be sure to properly credit the Huffington Post – where appropriate – in your text.

Perhaps you could have a link to a ‘read more about the syrian refugee crisis’ with a set of links or something.
