Analyzing a Scene – George Uppgren

I chose to use this torture scene from Zero Dark Thirty because of the tremendous controversy over using these techniques as a way to extract information from prisoners. This is still a very controversial topic in society today, and the media often will argue for or against one side of this topic without giving any counter argument. I wanted my video essay to have a a neutral stance on the topic, and leave it up to the audience to decide whether torture is acceptable or not, while also explaining where it stems from. Overall, I thought this scene was very powerful and also disturbing at the same time as it quickly shows the effects that this method can have on the people who are being tortured.
