Portal Ending

More so than the difficulty of the game, though it was incredibly difficult don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed how the game set up its world. particularly in the last chamber/escape route when Chell is running away and getting to the heart of GLADUS, I loved the one part where GLADUS said something like congratulations on finishing everything… time to die… wait you’re not dead, it was all a prank… assume the party position with your body on the floor and hands above your heads. I just felt like it was all in characterization with the things that GLADUS had been saying previously and just served to set up the inevitable final confrontation. The game takes painstaking care in order to emphasize that not all is right: from GLADUS’s creepy comments, to the disarray of the lab facility, cameras, jumpsuit, creepy writings on the wall, etc… I was a bit confused on what the cake was explicitly a metaphor for? but it was a really nice touch how they showed the cake at the end of the credits. I also like how our character does get outside but was a little sad to see them engulfed in flames, I assume we are meant to think she died? Idk, overall I really enjoyed playing this game as it was a fun test of my spatial problem solving, had intriguing mechanics, and built up its creepy tone really well.

Im not sure Chell died but then again I guess it is up to our imagination unless you play Portal 2. I thought that she just was able to get out of the chamber when she floated out and got back to the real world.

I agree with Alex. I’m not totally convinced that Chell is dead. After all, I’m still not totally convinced that Chell is entirely human either. I too found the cake metaphor to strengthened in relation to our WMDs in Iraq conversation by the ending.

I don’t think Chell is dead, especially because there is a Portal 2. I am kinda don’t really understand exactly what the ending meant. I can see the influences of WMD with the cake, but the storyline is still super hazy for me.
