BioShock Infinite (shanay)

I was played bioshock infinite on the PS4 which was an extremely fun change of pace from portal on the PC. I have pretty much been restricted to playing games on console and getting back to the controller was great. I’m pretty sure the version of the game on ps4 was remastered to the graphics are pretty crisp and up there with some of the newer shooters. Compared to a few other first person shooters I have played infinite’s controls were a little different, something I still haven’t adjusted to after a few hours of playing is aiming with the left stick, I cannot tell you how many times I tried to posses people while I was trying to aim at them. I found the start of the game a little confusing, especially when you find the AD on booker’s hand. Neither booker or the player is too sure how that happened. The opening scene with all the profits in the water praying in the circle was also a little confusing, but after the class discussion and playing through the game more it started to make sense. I also really enjoyed how this game was based in the light, because I prefer that much more than I prefer dark and dingy games. I would also like to figure out how vigors work, just drinking a potion gives you the ability to throw fireballs?

The combat of the game was a little tougher than I imagined on hard, I didn’t realize there were turrets shooting me and I was extremely confused as to why I was dying. This could also be because I was playing only with subtitles as my roommate was sleeping. The gun I liked to uses the most was defiantly the pistol, because I feel a sense of accomplishment when I land a headshot, but that might be because in other shooter games they are extremely difficult to use. I like the way you can loot the bodies of fallen enemies as it adds a little bit of RNG to the fights, giving you nothing if you’re flying through it or giving you a lot of assistance if you’re getting shot left right and center.

Like in portal, the turrets are still pretty annoying. I play on PC and my hands still cramp from not being used to gaming this way (console for life). I second the bright colored games, the darkly lit ones just aren’t the same and sometimes visuals don’t show up as well.

I also think the graphics are very impressive on the computer the game does not appear to me at least that it was made in 2012 and published in 2013. I do think it is a much different game than Portal. I hated Portal, but I hate puzzle games and I am a fan of shooter games. Depending on what difficulty you play on I think the combat can be easier. I am playing on easy and not to brag have not died yet. Im sure as you up the difficulty the game would get much worse. Also I love that you can look dead corpses and get things I think that is an awesome element in the game.

I too am playing Bioshock on the PS4 and have noticed a substantial upgrade in graphics as opposed to when I played it on Xbox 360 when it first came out. I was also initially confused about the “AD” on Booker’s hand but after our discussion on Monday I think it’s a piece of a larger allusion to Christianity. Speaking of which, I find the game’s splicing of Christianity and American History to form its own cultish religion very ironic and well thought out.

I am glad you brought up the turrets in the game. These things are not only tough to destroy, but tough to spot. There was one time where I realized I kept getting shot at but I could not see an enemy guard. It took a long time for me to realize that it was a turret. It is extremely satisfying to destroy a turret due to its extreme difficulty to take down. The turrets are also good to be used to my advantage. By using the salt, it can clear the way for the player by destroying the enemies. I cannot wait to use this trick more in this game.

I also like that you can loot the bodies after you murder them because you get a lot of handy resources right in front of you. However, I need to work on killing people and looting the bodies in a more efficient manner because I usually continue getting shot at while doing this. I guess I’m still getting used to the mechanics, but it’s hard for me to focus on more than one thing at once!
