Portal response 0-10
Unfortunately, due to a lack of available time, I have only been able to complete chambers 0-3 of Portal as of the writing of this blog post. From what I’ve seen of the game so far, I really like how the mechanics are not spelled out for you and you instead slowly start to understand the intricacies of the game. I really appreciate the level of detail in the graphics, but also the trust the developers put in the player. They trusted us to have the ability to solve puzzles without excessive hand holding (unlike some other games), and they don’t overwhelm us with information from the onset of the game. The physics engine of portal is honestly so impressive, just on the level of consistency and ingenuity the system uses. I’m really impressed by the simplicity of the basic concept, and even more impressed how they used that concept in order to generate complicated and engaging puzzles for the player to solve, all through the use of that one basic concept.
I am nto a huge fan of puzzle games and through the first five round it took me a while to get use to just using the gun to shoot portals. I had no idea that the person I kept seeing was me. I thought that girl was someone I needed to follow and I kept going in circles for a while till I realized what I had to do to get out of chamber 7.
