Performance of the Three Versions on the Charts

Billboard Chart Line Graph for Kygo’s Higher Love.

In terms of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, Steve Winwood’s original version of “Higher Love” saw the most success, reaching the #1 spot in August of 1986, and remaining on the chart for 13 weeks. Winwood’s version of the song was very in tune with the popular music of the time, which is why it saw so much success. Whitney Houston’s 1990 cover version of the song, on the other hand, didn’t see any time on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. This was largely due to the fact that, because her label didn’t want her to be seen as a cover artist, the song only came out as a bonus track on the Japanese edition of her album I’m Your Baby Tonight. In 2019, Kygo released his remix of Houston’s cover. Peaking at #63 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, he succeeded in introducing a new generation to Houston’s enormous talent. His EDM version of the song also reached #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Song Charts, where it remained for six weeks.
