Final Assignment Blog Post James Hulbert
My topic is analyzing the content in the HBO series called “The Shop.” This show was created by Lebron James to discuss today’s society in a barbershop setting. He invites famous athletes and performers to appear on the show such as Snoop Dogg, Drake, Odell Beckham Jr., and Kevin Durant. I chose it because I have been a lifelong Lebron James fan. I think he has great opinions socially and politically that complement his skills on the court. The pieces of media I am using are clips from The Shop. I will be using the keywords power, race, and stereotypes to analyze the media.
This is still pretty vague. How specifically are you using these keywords in the show? Are you looking at the entire show or a specific episode? There is also a long history of the cultural/social importance of the barbershop in black culture/society. Do you plan to address this? There is a lot of scholarship on why barbershop’s are important.
Generally though, this is still too vague. What is the thesis statement for this piece? What is the argument that you want the viewer to take away?
