Blog Posts and Responses

During weeks 2-11 of class, students will compose a post for the class blog. Your entry may include reflections on class activities and discussion, current events related to science content or pedagogy, or questions related to the teaching of science. The remainder of the class will respond to these posts. You can sign up for your date at:

Blog posts should be made AFTER our class session and no later than Thursday evening. Initial responses to blog posts and discussions in the comments should be completed by Sunday evening. You will want to revisit the blog posts to follow up and read the conversation before class on Monday.

Writing Posts
On the week you are the blog post author, you can reflect on weekly readings and in-class activities or you can share something in the news that has you thinking about instruction or science. The goal is to write a post that offers ideas for your classmates to respond to in a way that encourages further discussion in the comments. Be sure to tag your post to one or more of the listed categories or create a new category.

Responding to Posts
On the weeks you are responding to blog posts, follow this formula to create a substantive response: A + B (O + S + E) +C

  • A (Acknowledge)
  • B (Build)
    • O (your opinion/insight)
    • S (support from course readings, videos, and other sources)
    • E (specific example from your experience)
  • C (conclude)
