Avoid Using Firefox 5, Internet Explorer 9, and Chrome with Blackboard

The only certified and supported browsers for Blackboard include Firefox 4.x (Mac and Windows), Internet Explorer 8 (Windows), and Safari 4 and 5 (Macintosh only).  We typically recommend people to use Firefox with UR Blackboard because we have seen the least number of issues with that browser and often works as an alternative browser when someone has technical difficulties with IE or Safari.  However, Firefox 4 is not yet certified for Blackboard so please continue using Firefox version 4.x .  We will post updates as browser compatibility information is updated.

Did you upgrade and need to go back a version? Use the following links to download previous versions:

IE 8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8

Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html (there is no link to versions 4.x, but 4.x is compatible with Blackboard)

I just last week upgraded my Mac to Firefox 5. If there’s no link to 4.x, can I still use 5 until it messes up and I have to go to Safari? Are there known problems with Firefox 5?

I would stick with Firefox 5 unless you see a problem. The largest risk is for students taking an online assessment so for that instance, I would recommend trying to get to a computer that has a supported browser version (such as university labs). We are not aware of any known issues with Firefox 5 that are not in other Firefox versions.
