For many years, infrastructure meant the foundation, structure and subordinate parts of an organization, namely the military. However, with the advent of new technology, the definition as come to take on new meanings. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your field experience reports on the Çudamani performance. The strongest reports were those that identified very specific aspects of a keyword we’ve studied (or haven’t studied, but is in the KMS text) in the performance and explained how that aspect of the keyword increased appreciation for the performance in some way. All of your did this… Read more »

Around a week ago, I had the pleasure of viewing a live Gamelan Cudamani performance. This performance entailed many cultural stories and tales of balinese culture. The first act opened with an ‘all-men’ arrangement, with percussionists, as well as a multitude of other instrumentalists. There were 7 men in total and performed synchronously; 6 in the middle, and 1, the… Read more »

Each of the pieces were representative of different elements of Balinese culture and tradition. The first piece performed was called Rangrang, a Balinese word meaning intertwined or knit together. The… Read more »

Çudamani Field Experience Report – Grace Brogan

The Cudamani performance was a visual and musical performance by a Balinese music and dance ensemble. The performance used elaborate costumes, gamelan, and dance to express a variety of stories from Balinese culture. One concept that I felt I better understood through this performance was that of identity. As it is one of the main themes of… Read more »

Attending Gamelan Cudamani’s performance was an amazing experience that I would not have attended if it weren’t for our class. When I first saw the assignment that required us to attend Gamelan Cudamani, I did a brief google search to see what the performance would entail. I quickly realized that Gamelan was a traditional Balinese style of song and dance…. Read more »

The Cudamani Gamelan and Dance of Bali was a performance unlike anything I have ever experienced, and it allowed me to encounter a completely different culture. This performance combined elements of dance with music which allowed the audience to experience multiple mediums of their culture. The start of the performance consisted of a musical number which was played on instruments that… Read more »
