Technological devices are created in order to make things easier. These devices can be used for many different things such as communication, education, transportation, etc. Growing up in the technological era has had a huge impact on our generation. There are many things that I need to do using technology that my parents had grown up learning to do without. Getting in contact with my friends can be as easy as one small text, compared to my parents’ experience of walking to a friend’s house or using the family landline. When covid shut down school and work offices, my parents explained to me that technology provided us with the means to continue to learn via Zoom, which was something they were never equipped with when they were younger. If this pandemic were to have happened to their generation the students would have missed crucial schooling and the workers would have missed their jobs. This example shows how technology is changing and advancing every day. Since our generation does unfortunately have a huge dependence on technology it makes me wonder how the next generation will behave. With new technological devices constantly being created, the next generation might be able to do certain things we find difficult now, similar to how contacting a friend for me was much different from my parent’s experience.

I think it is very interesting to think about how many technological advancements have taken place since our parents were our age. It must have been very challenging for them to raise their children in a whole new technological generation. They had very little to no to experience with iPhones and social media and were learning how to use it with us. I have also thought about what the world might look like for the next generation as well. I fear that the dependence on technology will only continue to increase.
I agree that technology brings a lot of benefits for us. It is hard to imagine what will happen if the covid happened in our parent’s generations. Society may suddenly stop working since people don’t have a channel to get to others to work or study. Without communication, many works cannot be done. I also agree that our generation has a huge dependence on technology. Since the things we do are all related to technology, we almost spend more than 5-7 hours using phones and computers. This will cause us more easily to be distracted and have less empathy for others. It is interesting to think about if the new technological devices are constantly being created, what greater harm will they cause to the next generation?
There’s an argument to be made that advances in technology enabled and sped the spread of COVID-19. Consider whether previous generations would have experienced how the virus spread so quickly because of frequent and consistent international and domestic travel. The virus had far more opportunities to get out of Wuhan, and as a result spread far more rapidly than if high-speed, accessible, and convenient transportation were less available.
