My name is Alex and I’m a junior at the University of Richmond. I’m a Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies Major and a Spanish minor. In Spring of 2016, I will be studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. I chose Madrid because, while I was born and raised in Philadelphia, my mother is Spanish and we have family in Madrid. I am hoping to explore my cultural heritage as well as reconnecting with my family abroad.
Rio Manzanares, Madrid
Madrid only has one major body of water running through it, el Rio Manzanares, although there are many fountains and man made ponds. This, as well as the fact that Spain is so arid and rarely sees any rain, means that droughts occur often. While abroad, I am interested in studying water access and conservation, and gaining a better understanding of community perspectives on water usage.
