Tyranny is Tyranny

Rebellions have been used over time to overthrow governments who weren’t sufficiently providing for the people. This has especially been seen throughout history in the United States. This struggle has almost always been linked with the oppression of the poor by the wealthy. The fight between the two was also commonly used to get the people against another, larger opposer. In one of the examples given, the author describes the French or England

I am curious, then, what makes a country actually rally up against another opponent when there is enough strife within. Is it because it is only one party who has genuine influence over the issue? Or does the sense of nationalism overcome any anger towards the outside party? I would assume that the nationalistic feel would only carry them so far, as I feel that it would decrease overtime and no longer be an effective way to get the people together.

I have definitely asked myself the same question– why cause international conflict when there is enough domestic struggle occurring? I think Zinn’s article has modern-day implications because we see with international affairs today the problems stirring up, yet we have enough to worry about in our home country.

I think it is a very interesting conflict as to why cause international conflict when there is enough problems occurring from within. Our home country has enough struggles and debt to worry and stress about and not international affairs.

you make an interesting point about nationalism only getting you so far. However i would argue that nationalism is one of the key factors that has gotten America to where it is today. The idea that ”America is the greatest” seems to have gotten a lot of people really far in life.

I think your comment about domestic struggle is very interesting. I feel like often, even if there’s some sort of internal disconnect, the sense of nationalistic pride outweighs what’s happening domestically. As far as your mention of rebellions, I find that it is very interesting to think of how violence has been the go to answer for many countries, even against people that inhabit the same nation as them.
