In brief, researchers will send proposals to irb@richmond.edu . The Chair will make an initial determination as to whether the proposal can be acted on by expedited review or if it must be reviewed by the convened board. The Chair will make his determination largely based on OHRP’s published list of OHRP Expedited Review Categories (1998). This OHRP guidance specifies “Categories of Research That May Be Reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) through an Expedited Review Procedure“. If the Chair is in doubt as to whether or not a proposal can be reviewed using the expedited process, he or she will usually put the proposal on the agenda of the convened IRB.
