Citizen Control at the Welfare Office

This article is about the degree of citizenship afforded different groups of women. We have the expectation that the state will treat all citizens equally. This is the bone of contention in cases of the lethal force used by police against Blacks. This article tests the notion that state offices do treat all citizens seeking help in the same way. It is an experimental design, using women that belong to the majority and two minority groups. The question is: To what extent does the state apparatus reinforce marginalization of certain groups through the quality and quantity of interactions? What did they find? What do you think of the experimental method?
