First visit to Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples are difficult to describe and pictures don’t do it justice, but here goes.

It was a hot day but the views are so stunning that we pushed through. You can see the main temple of Angkor Wat behind us. We are standing beside the causeway, also known as the rainbow road and the road to heaven.

Angkor Wat from the south entrance. Our guide was helpful and gave us a tour that started at the back, avoiding some of the crowds coming in the front.

Our guide telling us about the 3 levels depicted in the mural, Hell, Human and Heaven.

Exploring the inner chambers with unimaginably intricate designs.

Amazing views from every angle.

Beautiful views of the jungle from the top level of Angkor Wat.

After walking through the temple and around the grounds, we crossed the moat and went to Bayon, the main temple within the ancient walled city of Angkor Tom. There are 56 towers with 4 faces on each, representing the 4 characteristics needed to reach nirvana.
