Monday, May 20: Travel from DC

Depart Washington Dulles at 12:20pm and arrive to Tokyo, Japan at 3:25pm on May 21

Tuesday, May 21 Travel from Tokyo

ANA Airlines flight NH805
Depart Tokyo at 6:25pm and arrive to Bangkok, Thailand at 11:10pm

11:10pm: Arrive to Bangkok, go through customs, pick up luggage and transit to the hotel provided by Hartanto Gunawan

12:30am: Arrive at Hotel 41 Suite Bangkok, check-in and go to bed


Wednesday, May 22: Bangkok

Morning: Enjoy a restful morning in the hotel and recovery from the flights

Afternoon: Learn how to use the BTS Skytrain

Visit Siam Square for shopping and people watching.

Evening River Boat Ride on the Chao Praya River.

Thursday, May 23: Bangkok

Explore the Wat Arun, Temple of Dawn, and visit Hartanto Gunawan’s learning centerthat is located on the temple grounds

Friday, May 24: Bangkok

10:30am-12:00pm. Meeting at the United Nations Action for Cooperation against Trafficking in Persons (UN-ACT) with Sebastian Boll to discuss efforts by the UN to address human rights and modern slavery in SE Asia

12:00pm: Lunch at the UN cafeteria

Dinner: At the restaurant Cabbages and Condoms which was conceptualized in part to promote better understanding and acceptance of family planning and to generate income to support various development activities

Saturday, May 25: Bangkok

Meet Mr. Hartanto and go to Wat Po and the Royal Palace.

Visit to Asiatique Night Market

Sunday, May 26: Bangkok

Free time for students to explore safely in pairs

Dinner: Joined by John Quinley, UR alum from Step Ahead, a community development organization based in Thailand

Monday, May 27: Travel to Chiang Rai

Thai Smile Airways flight WE 134
Depart Bangkok (BKK) at 1:10pm and arrive to Chiang Rai at 2:30pm

3:00pm: Shuttle pickup and check in at Wangcome Hotel

Visit Chiang Rai night bazaarfor shopping and dinner

Tuesday, May 28: Chiang Rai

Relaxing visit to Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Parkand visit to Buddhist temples

Wednesday, May 29: Chiang Rai

Begin the first day of volunteering at The Freedom Story, a non-profit dedicated to preventing child trafficking and exploitation

Thursday, May 30: Chiang Rai

Continue volunteering at The Freedom Story

Sara and Matt depart for Bangkok at 3pm on Thai Smiles flight WE 134

Friday, May 31: Chiang Rai

Journey to the Ban Daam Museum, also known as the Black Temple that was home to the renowned Thai artist, Thawan Duchanee

Thai language lesson and cooking class with Aor Saokhamnuan; Aor teaches English in Thailand and has a fascinating story as a stateless hill tribe member who was one of the first to get her Thai ID card in her village

Dinner: On own, suggestions will be provided

Saturday, June 1: Chiang Rai

Visit the White Temple, designed in 1997 by Thai artist, Chalermchai Kositpipat

Dinner: On own, suggestions will be provided

Sunday, June 2: Travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia

Thai Smile Airways flight WE 135
Depart Chiang Rai at 3:00pm and arrive to Bangkok (BKK) at 4:25pm

Depart Bangkok (BKK) on flight WE 590 at 7:10pm and arrive to Siem Reap at 8:15pm

8:45pm: Shuttle pickup and check in at Saem Siempreap Hotel

Monday, June 3: Siem Reap

Explore the Angkor Wattemple complex, one of the largest religious monuments in the world

Tuesday, June 4: Siem Reap

Continue exploring Angkor Wat

6:00pm: Have dinner and attend a performance at the Phare Circus, a theatre, music, dance, and modern circus arts performance that uniquely tells Cambodian historical, folk, and modern stories

Wednesday, June 5: Drive to Poipet

Shuttle transportation to Poipet and check in at Omeas Hotel

Volunteer at Love Without Boundaries

Thursday, June 6: Return to Siem Reap

Continue volunteering at Love without Boundaries

Drive back to Siem Reap and stay at Saem Siemreap Hotel

Friday, June 7: Travel to Bangkok

Free time to explore; everyone must be back at the hotel by 3pm for transport to airport

Depart Siem Reap at 7:25pm and arrive to Bangkok (BKK) at 8:35pm

Pick up luggage, remain in airport, and check in for flight back to USA

Saturday, June 8: Travel to USA

Depart Bangkok (BKK) at 12:20am and arrive to Tokyo, Japan at 8:40am

Depart Tokyo on flight NH2 at 11:00am and arrive to DC (IAD) at 10:40am
