Critical Reflective Essays

Critical Reflective Essays are due by the end of the day on Friday and are worth 3 points each.

  • +1 point – are NOT summaries; they are connections and insights you’ve discovered throughout the week and how they connect with course topics and extend reading experiences.
  • +1 point – are a way to demonstrate learning and support the retention of knowledge from in-class activities, and insights from your classmates.
  • +1 point – reflective essays should be 1 ½ – 3 pages in length and follow APA  format

When you follow APA format, you are expected to include a cover sheet and citations with your reflective essays. Citations in these essays can include ideas from the class texts, quotes from the instructors and classmates, and additional resources you may refer to in the body of the essay.

Here is a link to a general guide to the 7th edition of APA.

Therefore, to earn 3 full points on each critical reflective essay, elements of the essay should refer to readings, class activities, and small group discussions. When you are absent, you miss perspectives mentioned in discussions and are unable to reference these perspectives in your reflective essay. We will excuse one class absence in terms of being able to earn full points. If you are absent two or more times, you will be able to earn 2 points on your reflective essay due to the absence of perspectives presented during class and small group discussions.

While a critical reflective essay allows you to write in the first person, we encourage you not to be too informal in your writing style and to stick to the topic. We welcome your ideas, opinions, suggestions, solutions, and the evidence to back them up. Click here for more info.
