Blackboard is up. We are in the middle of testing the IE8 timed assessment issue so please use Firefox for any timed assessments. Thank you for your patience.

In order to eliminate an issue some UR students see when completing a Blackboard assessment (see earlier post regarding timed tests), Information Services will be restarting Blackboard services at 5:00pm today. The outage should last 5 minutes or less. If you try accessing Blackboard after 5:05 pm and still see an outage message, please try forcing a refresh of your web browser (typically F5 or Ctrl-R on Windows and Command-R on a Mac), emptying the cache in your web browser, or exiting your browser completely and then visiting http://blackboard.richmond.edu . News updates for UR Blackboard will be posted here. If you have any questions, please send an email to blackboard@richmond.edu .
The Help Desk has reported a student that could not submit a timed assessment using Internet Explorer 8 with Blackboard. The timer box may extend down the left side of the screen and hide the submit button. Professors: timers are generally a bad idea for other reasons that liaisons go into in another post. Students: if you find yourself in this situation, please save the assessment and finish taking it with Firefox. Otherwise, try clearing IE 8's cache, or enabling Compatibility Mode. (Click "Compatibility View" on the left-hand side of that Microsoft page.) This will let you view pages in IE 8 as they appear in IE 7.
For the smoothest experience and highest level of compatibility with Blackboard, we recommend using Firefox (update regularly but not using beta versions). It's free for all Mac and PC users. If you encounter any of the above, please contact blackboard AT richmond DOT edu for assistance.
Attention all UR Blackboard users: The Blackboard server is unavailable each day for a 15-minute window from sometime between 2:30 am and 3:30 am Perhaps you’re tucked safely in your beds by that point, but for the night owls out there, this announcement is important. The servers undergo nightly maintenance and are restarted during this window.
It is important to note that if people choose to use the system during that window, it is done at the risk of losing the work. Therefore, it is best not to create or take an assessment during that time or submit assignments; however, downloading a copy of the syllabus has little risk.
Thanks for your patience, and happy teaching, learning, and grading!
