In the CT image to the left, the head is viewed from the side. The eye sockets are filled with linen packing and traces of packing can be seen in the nose and mouth. The “cloudy” material at the back of the skull is resin, which was poured into the skull through the nose after the brain had been removed.
The center image shows a reconstruction of her skull. The cartilage of her ears is also visible.
During the mummification process, several organs were removed but the heart was left in the body to be available for the “Weighing of the Heart” ceremony in the Afterlife. Her heart shows calcification in her arteries, meaning she suffered from mild heart disease, as did many Egyptians.
