College in the United States has evolved greatly since Harvard University was first founded. In order to understand how we got to such a breaking point in college admissions, we must look at its origins. We must understand that Blacks and women have been excluded from the beginning (“History of HBCUs”). The system, from the start has always favored some groups over others which today has resulted in vast inequalities. The way we see college today is very different than how people thought of it less than 100 years ago (“Higher Education in the United States”).
