Women’s Right to Vote

Although I was taught that women were granted the right to vote much later than men, I did not realize how big of a fight it took to reach that point. The videos definitely gave me a good look into the effort and years of fighting it took for these women to earn a right that all people should have. This then makes me think of how different things might be if women had been leading this entire time. In the article “Would Women Lead Differently?,”Schein writes about the different approach that women have to leadership that men generally do not possess. She mentions that the world would be a much more inclusive and peaceful place which I can definitely imagine to be true.

I also thought it was intriguing that women described themselves as transformational leaders and genuinely had the best interest of their followers in mind. This really makes me wonder how different our society would be with more women leaders, especially in the past. In general, the readings and videos really opened my eyes to the struggles that women faced in the early 1900’s.

I also was taught in middle and high school that woman went through a movement to vote, but didn’t see how hard the actual fight was. I think that more schools should emphasize how strong and persistent the women were during this time, as it was truly difficult. I also now an more grateful for those women for the opportunities I have today.

I also wondered how much different our leadership structure would be with female leaders. Women, in general, are said to be more nurturing caring and transformational–because of this I feel that our bureaucracy would not be as set in stone because that is a system that is completely de-personalized.

I also liked Schein’s focus on the leadership dynamics woman have and how they can be great leaders. It is so intriguing to think about what could have been if women were equally represented in leadership roles. I agree that it would be more peaceful as I have studied some more matriarchal societies.

One thing I thought was interesting was that if women were equally represented they could have the capacity to think differently and find solutions that aren’t mainstream. I like how Schein makes an argument about how this mindset is destructive in the process of trying to figure out leadership effectiveness.

I really enjoyed this post and thought you made a series of excellent points. I also never truly realized the effort went into women gaining equality as well as was not aware of altering amendments.

I agree that I did not know how big the fight was before watching this video. It really opened my eyes to how hard women had to fight to get the rights.

I agree with you that it was interesting how women were described as transformational leaders and how society could be different if they were always leaders. I think that society would be less business orientated and people would definitely be less selfish. However, there is always a downside to something and I do not know what that would be.
