Tyrannicide

The justification of tyrannicide is something that philosophers and historians constantly theorize about. It is all about one’s opinion and the situation to decide whether it is acceptable. This is because tyrannicide is the act of killing a tyrant who is abusing the power in order to better the community and have a central government. On the other hand, terrorism is an act of violence, usually by an institutional organization, used to promote their differing ideologies. The theories that claim tyrannicide and terrorism are the same are interesting but wrong.

There are a plethora of reasons for why tyrannicide and terrorism greatly differ, but I think there are two main ones. One is because tyrannicide only targets one person: the tyrant. On the contrary, terrorists chose their victim or hostage at random to send their message and target a larger community. The second and perhaps most significant reason is that tyrannicide is an attempt to uphold the moral principles of natural law. Terrorism is the complete opposite, as terrorists are described as amoral and antinomian.

I agree with many of the points you discussed about the moral legitimacy of tyrannicide. I think much of the way we think about tyrants, and their removal has been intertwined with democracy and the very natures of our governments and culture, like how Andrade brings up the Lion King and plots of Disney Channel stories. It is interesting to me how such a seemingly obvious way of thinking such as disposing of a violent tyrant, may be thought of differently in other parts of the world with different governments and cultures.

I also agree that terrorism is different from tyrannicide. You distinguished the two forms very well. Terrorism is about getting a message across maybe from a group who feels injustice while tyrannicide is about doing what a person or group feels is best for the nation.

I like how you established the clear difference between tyrannicide and terrorism. I also find it intriguing how depending on the circumstances and government, the perception and opinions on tyrannicide can sway.

Thank you for pointing out the difference between terrorism and tyrannicide, its something that a lot of people tend to lump those things together as one. a tyrannicidist goes about trying to make the world a better place through the wrong means but a terrorist tries to change the world through inciting terror. its a necessary distinction.
