Social Media Strategies at Go Dash Dot

My first official* week at Go Dash Dot began on Monday, and we jumped right into how to best strategize market outreach on our Instagram page. We (the intern team) met with our site’s web designer, Susan, over Zoom to discuss how she runs key word optimization searches on several different softwares and also how she searched for Instagram influencer profiles who looked like strong potential customers and brand partners. As the blog intern, learning all of this information during my first week was helpful to know how I’d be working alongside Susan in finding the best key words to use for each of my posts, and also learning how she uses her software to develop these words. For background, a key word algorithm gives a blog post the ability to be optimized in a google search, or other search engine, which essentially connects it to certain phrases and products that are searched for on the web. This allows our company’s blog to be exposed through different searches and gives us a greater understanding of what our customers are seeing when they search for us online. Our meeting also allowed us to distribute certain aspects of our market research between each intern. My site supervisor, Hannah, the CEO of GDD, and the marketing team leader, Amanda, were also sitting in on the call to run us through different functions of the team’s dynamic and how they communicate with Susan. We first divided our market influencer audience by regions — South, West and Midwest (Northeast is already well researched) — and we further divided influencer’s social media accounts focus between wellness/fitness, beauty/fashion and entrepreneurs. This divide and conquer method revealed how most of our work this summer would be delegated to us, which is probably one of the best methods for a remote internship experience. It also allows us to be efficient as a team and trust each other to complete our respective research so that when we reconvene next week, we’ll all have something to report.

Through this meeting I learned how Hannah and Amanda interact with each and I also learned how our intern team would be expected to take on certain initiatives. We were encouraged to ask questions throughout the meeting and we were each addressed specifically based on what we were hired to complete. Hannah explained that she hoped to meet regularly so that we can further discuss our outreach success in finding different influencers and partners who match our categories. I’ll also meet with Susan more often than the other interns because of my role with the GDD’s blog. I’m looking forward to learning more about the company’s work flow and how they’ll continue to communicate with the intern team as my time progresses.
