Si Ying: Places That Have Left An Impression On Me

My Story Map is set with a rather generic title but I chose to inject the term “impression” to imply that these are the places, among other places I have been to, that have been the classrooms to my learning experiences and reflections.

Many times, experiences make the impression in the places I chose to illustrate on this Story Map rather than the physical appeal of the place itself. And these experiences are unique to each one of us.

This was a very fun StoryMap to read, I loved the unusual facts you inserted about the places you have lived and visited. I though you made good use of photographs and visual aids. I liked how you brought up new concepts, like voluntourism.

Great StoryMap and really good use of photos and descriptive writing to get a feel for each place! I had a similar idea with my StoryMap and I think you did a great job explaining how each place was important to you and impacted you. It is easy to see that you have done a lot of work and trips involving the study of geography. Good use of some geographical terms, including the landscape of certain places – perhaps could have incorporated more of these terms with the work that you did. I really liked the map and idea though – I too think there is a great difference between visiting a country as a ‘tourist’ and as a ‘local’!

Wow! Si Ying, that was an amazing storymap! Your use of key terms like Voluntarism and globalization were correct and enhanced the overall quality of their respective slides. The diversity of terms you attached to each experience demonstrated an understanding of those terms. Overall, I learned quite a lot about various locations in Asia and you clearly established the way you are a global citizen. Awesome job!

A captivating story map! I particularly enjoyed your analysis of each place. Your use of geographic key terms was very organic and fit seamlessly into your personal view of each place. Aesthetically, the graphics were pleasing and your use of personal photos really helped to highlight the personal aspect of the story.

I really liked to watch your pictures. I think you described your background story through the places you have been. I also think the trips and where you visit can teach lots of lessons, even more than a class. It was interesting that you mentioned about different classes like a business class and a working class in Hong Kong. It was helpful that you brought out the issue of immigrants in Hong Kong since we talked about immigrants a lot in the class.
