Evelyn’s storymap – Geography 210: Geographic Dimensions of Human Development

I am a global citizen because I link myself to many different countries in the world through watching sports. I love watching any kind of sports. Few of my favorites are sports from Olympics, soccer, football, golf, etc. I especially love to learn more about the cultures by watching sports games. I look up the cultural meanings to the ceremonies the athletes do when they make a goal or win a race. The rituals and folk tales from around the world embedded in the ceremonies fascinate me. I connect myself to different parts of the world through my interest. I think sportsmanship brings people together to cooperate and respect rules regardless of culture, language, and their own interest. Watching sports games, I also learn that I have to cooperate and respect rules regardless of my own culture, language, and interest as a global citizen. As a sports fan, I feel the sense of being in a family as a global citizen. Not only do I interact with people near me as I watch the sports games, but I also interact with the athletes and the crowds who are from different parts of the world. Watching sports games around the world connects me to the most basic cultures and personalities of different nations.

I love the enthusiasm of this story map, I was able to tell the author enjoyed reminiscing on these important sports events in their lives. I enjoyed the global athletic connection that was established and used to convey how globalization; how the world is becoming “smaller” and activities are becoming more global is impacting our world. All around the world people love sports and it is bridging culture and customs.
