Despite all of the problems, both Owen and Wright proved a lot with their communities, paved the way for other progressive minds, and impacted the world around them. Wright and Robert Dale Owen (Robert Owen’s son) went on to carry the legacy of New Harmony and Nashoba and set up sources of media that acted as forums for people to discuss the ideas of abolition, education, and women’s rights. Owen had a profound influence on other utopian socialists like Etienne Cabet. Though Owen and Wright’s impact may not have been completely direct, they paved the way for changes that would soon come in the later 19th century. They were trail blazers in this sense, and a lot of their ideas on public education, women’s rights, and of course, abolition, are seen to this day.
