I feel that I have learned quite a bit after further researching Robert Owen’s New Harmony community. I have found it almost impossible to talk about New Harmony without comparing and contrasting it Frances Wright’s Nashoba community. I think that adding information about Nashoba is a perfect complement to New Harmony, and will help me expand on my findings. Originally, I my research question was, “Why did New Harmony fail to withstand the test of time?” After thinking about it I have realized that I want to keep the question essentially the same. However, I would like to rephrase it to, “why did New Harmony and Nashoba have such a short lifespan?” I feel that incorporating Nashoba was very important to give my research depth, and I like the idea of looking into the problems that these communities have. Despite the issues they shared, this question will hopefully allow me to reveal the successes they shared as well.
