The City of Richmond is accessible by all major modes of transportation: Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Airport

The Richmond International Airport is less than 10 miles from the center of Downtown Richmond.  Look for the airport code RIC in booking travel.

Transport to Downtown Richmond

Here are options for getting from the airport to downtown:

  • Uber: around $15-20
  • Virginia Air Link: around $42
  • Lyft: $20-25 (Lyft airport service expected to start by July 2016)
  • Taxi: $40-$50 (est.)
  • Some hotels may have shuttles

Amtrak Train

Amtrak passenger rail services the Richmond area regularly, with connections to the DC metropolitan area as well as points south and beyond. There are more frequent trains to the Staples Mill Road station.  The Main Street Station is just under a mile from UR Downtown.

Uber, Lyft and Richmond taxis should service both Amtrak stations.

Arriving by Car

The city of Richmond is easy to navigate by automobile, and parking rates in the city can be very affordable. Downtown Richmond is about 110 miles south of Washington, D.C.  Traffic travel times can vary, but it is often a 2-3 hour drive.
