Fandoms

This weeks reading discussed what it means to be a fan for a particular kind of media, and how this phenomenon allows for the public to interact with certain medias. “Keywords for Media Studies” discussed fandoms , “in terms of performativity, as participants act out or embody particular identities, display particular emotions, or demonstrate their mastery over shared fictions.” This indicates that a fandoms has shifted to becoming a more active practice, meaning in order to be a participant, there are physical actions a fan must take.

My video this week focuses on the negative side of a fandom. To make this clip I found a number of examples of celebrities being attacked on stage or while leaving a venue. I placed sound from a video explaining the positive and negative sides of a fandom. Additionally I used the previous quote over an image of Kim Kardashian being mauled by her fans.
