Commodity

For this blog post I decided to expand on Alison Hearn’s chapter on Commodification. Last week, I talked about the commodification in America’s Next Top Model and lightly touched on the Kardashians. This week I decided to focus on the commodification of the Kardashians. They are the perfect example of commodification cause each member has been transformed into objects for sale in a capitalist system.

I decided to take the recent trailer for the 14th season of Keeping up with the Kardashians and add in still photos of promotional photoshoots from different brands that feature or are from the girls. Kim, Khloe, and Kylie have their own products such as: KKW Beauty, KKW Fragrance, Kylie Cosmetics, Good American. While Kim, Khloe, and Kylie have their own brands, Kendall and Kourtney are brand ambassadors for Estee Lauder and Manuka Honey. The various Kardashian sisters are being used for capitalist and economic purposes, thus are being commodified.
