Final Project Topic Proposal: Hypersexuality of Vietnamese women in “Miss Saigon”

I chose this topic because it stood between the intersection of race and sexuality. I would love to further explore the effects of Orientalist thinking on the portrayal of female characters from nations which suffered under US imperialism. I think it’d be interesting to explore the intricacies between these two relations. Specifically, I want to focus on the romanticization of the relationship between a 17 year old underage Vietnamese girl and a white male and her subsequent death.
