Racism (Overt/Inferential)

Racism is a social construction that centers around the ideology that one race is superior to others to position people within the world, it can be broken down into overt and inferential.

Overt racism is obvious, and comes in the form of racial slurs, refusing service, and segregation.

Ex. in media: favorable coverage given to arguments/spokespersons who advance racist policy/views

vs.

Inferential racism is more naturalized representations of events which have racist premises, like unquestioned assumptions, and these come in the form of stereotypes, racial profiling, modern racism (hostility), and ‘color-blind’ racism
