Allegory of the Cave, Leaders, Followers

The Allegory of the Cave was intriguing because we as humans don’t often think about how we are perceiving something and that maybe we are wrong. Humans have a hard time seeing things from a different point of view, but it is a very important tool in life and for also becoming a good leader. Plato’s idea connects to Mabey’s claim that our leaders are becoming more divided from the communities. If the leaders were able to perceive stuff differently or even knew that their perception was always right then maybe we wouldn’t be stuck in this dilemma.

I do not agree with Mabey’s idea of needing more or majority citizen leaders. More citizen leaders would certainly be great, but it is not what I believe the solution is. In fact, I don’t think there is a set answer. I believe that the society needs to know what they want in their leader, and then choose them. Some people won’t be happy with the decision, but at least it is majority. There is no best way to change the leaders and their roles, it depends on what the society and community want.

I was thinking about that as well doing this exercise. I think to be a good leader one must step back from their ego centric point of views and look at the world with the idea that they might be wrong and to not get caught up in themselves. This is why so many leaders have been looked at negatively because they get caught in their role and find themselves extremely egotistical and not doing things for the greater good but because THEY think they are right and not listening to the publics point of view or literally anyone else.

straight facts that humans don’t know what they want in a leader or how they perceive the world around them. its actually quite comical if you think about it. humans think they know so much but then one simple experience completely changes how they exist. but back to the content it is interesting how perception really determines what we want and get out of a leader.

I also think that in order to be a good leader, you have to be diplomatic and be able to see both or all sides of an argument because yes it is good to have your set opinion but it’s also good to be able to understand why someone may have a differing view on the situation. This also is why I agree that each society and situation will need to have a different type of leader because you cannot have one set “leader model” for all scenarios in life it just does not work like that.
