Idiosyncrasy Credit Measures Great Leadership

When I first began my internship, I quickly realized I was at a disadvantage with my extremely limited knowledge of the art world and of Syrian culture. Maureen has a Masters in Art History and has a successful career as an art advisor and curator. Mohammad grew up in Syria and has devoted his career to Syrian and Arabic studies. Both of my supervisors’ credentials are supreme and they have proven their unparalleled knowledge in their respective fields.

Throughout the weeks I have been working with Maureen and Mohammad, they have effectively relayed information to me at a manageable level. When I work with Maureen I have learned important jargon by seeing repetitive words and asking or researching about them. I have also learned how to manage an artist database by exploring on my own with Maureen’s supervision. I am also currently learning the various aspects of curating an art show by actively contributing to meetings and conducting research. When I am with Mohammad, I have learned about current events in Syria through daily discussions. I have also learned the basics of creating a website through meetings with his web designer.

Throughout my time so far with Maureen and Mohammad, I believe they have built a tremendous amount of idiosyncrasy credit. Idiosyncrasy credit describes the dynamic process of interpersonal evaluation. Credit is earned over time in the perceptions of others by competence and conformity. Maureen and Mohammad have both demonstrated their competence through their impressive knowledge of their respective fields. Observing how they operate their sides of the business through business meetings and previous projects along with their ability to answer any relevant questions I have, has shown their honorable dedication and pristine intelligence of their fields. In addition to their competence, when Maureen and Mohammad relay information to me, they do it with the understanding I do not have a background in art history or Middle Eastern culture. With their faith in my abilities and relevant knowledge, they conform to my level of knowledge to the fields when explaining specific tasks and details to projects. For Maureen and Mohammad to have gained a great amount of idiosyncrasy credit through personal evaluation speaks volume to their great leadership qualities.
