Transformational Leadership with Chief Executive Group:

Based on my observations and virtual interactions with my colleagues at Chief Executive Group I believe that transformational leadership is relevant to describing the effectiveness of the organization. According to Bass, transformational leadership requires teams to create a vision in order to inspire needed change, in order to enhance the relationship between leaders and their followers. The company has largely been impacted by COVID-19 because they typically rely on hosting in-person events for CEOs in order to generate revenue. As a result, they have had to adapt and implement change by finding new ways to inspire and engage with both their team and their clients virtually. Their daily meetings and utilization of webinars exemplify inspirational motivation and individualized consideration, which are two key aspects of transformational leadership.

First, Chief Executive has demonstrated transformational leadership by inspiring the team by holding daily huddle meetings. During these meetings, the team leaders take the time to check in on their staff and ask them for updates on their work. This gives every employee the opportunity to have their voice heard and to share valuable insight with their colleagues. Even more notably, team leaders also take this time to celebrate the company’s accomplishments and to personally commend the individuals who contributed to that success. This approach has lead team members greatly admire their leaders for being both kind and fair. This notion exemplifies the inspirational motivation aspect of transformational leadership because it has has lead the team to share in their leaders’ vision and to want to do their part to ensure that the company continues to succeed in spite of COVID-19. As an intern, I have truly enjoyed having the opportunity to sit in on these meetings because it has given me insight into how the company’s success is largely attributable to the loyalty and respect the team feels for both their leaders and each other.

Additionally, the company has been hosting webinars in order to manage the changing nature of the pandemic. Having had the opportunity to sit in on these webinars, I have observed how the company has employed individualized consideration to meet the current needs of their followers. For example, they recently hosted a CEO Rising Summit where they invited four CEOs to share their businesses best practices and answer questions from the audience. Chief Executive recognized that many of their clients are struggling with how to navigate running a company during COVID-19 and are facing the difficult possibility of having to lay off their employees. By hosting a virtual event where clients were given the opportunity to ask top CEOs for their advice, they managed to make them feel heard and cared for during these difficult times, .

Consequently, Chief Executive Group has demonstrated transformational leadership by enacting inspirational motivation within the team and practicing individualized consideration towards their followers. This approach has enabled the company to be both adaptable and resilient in the face of the obstacles presented by COVID-19.
