Shayna’s Consumption Map: Maracuja Oil by Tarte Cosmetics

Tarte Cosmetics is a leading high-end makeup brand with many successful products, one of which is their Maracuja Oil. This product is advertised as being vegan, eco-friendly and made using sustainable practices. While the company makes a variety of claims, they offer little evidence about the execution of these tasks. I have tracked the process of creating Maracuja Oil from production to consumption in order to evaluate how realistic Tarte’s claims are. The large gap between the fruit’s harvest in Brazil and consumption in the United States is long, and there are many steps that the plant goes through to become this cosmetic oil.
