THE JOURNEY OF A SWEDISH POTATO

Potatoes are among the most common foods in the Swedish cuisine. In fact, the average total consumption of potatoes measures about 670,000 metric tons, or 150 pounds per person and year. Today, Swedish potato growers provide about 80% of the total consumption and the residual 20% are imported from e.g. Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Even though the majority of the potatoes are grown in Sweden, part of the seed potatoes is imported from other counties. Thus, the Swedish potatoes aren’t always as Swedish as one might think.

In this story map, you will get to follow the production chain of a potato grown at “Stora Tollby Gård” (Tollby Farm), located on the Swedish island Gotland.
