Converse-Cate Donovan

These American classics have been around the world long before touching ground in the U.S.  In this presentation I trace the production of Converse All Stars from the raw material of the traditional canvas fabric to the consumer purchase in the United States.  Converse is owned by Nike, who says of their manufacturing process that  “every contract factory in our supply chain is subject to a rigorous set of compliance standards, which starts with Nike’s Code of Conduct – the minimum standard we expect each factory to meet. In addition, we evaluate contract factory performance across sustainability – including labor and environmental practices…”  In this project, I will investigate how well Nike is keeping up with its own standards and examine the global impacts of Converse consumption.
