John Moriarty: Vans Consumption Map

Since 1966, Vans have appealed to the surf/skate community. From Southern California to around the world, Vans are iconic sneakers worn by both skaters and the general population as casual shoes as well as durable shoes built for skating and active lifestyles. Like many other American-made products, over time Vans has outsourced production of their shoes overseas, making Vans a very globalized company. They try to stick to their roots, with their headquarters and a distribution center still located in SoCal. Vans appears loyal to the lifestyle to the culture that put them on a map, however it is clear that over time they have become a brand that was built by the skate culture, but has changed to appeal to the masses.
